In the world of motorcycle clothing, innovative materials are in demand that offer the highest level of safety while remaining comfortable to wear. One material that has proven particularly successful in recent years is PEKEV@. But what exactly is it, what variants are available, and how does PEKEV differ from other well-known materials such as Kevlar®, Dyneema®, Rokkertech®, and Cordura®? Here you'll find all the important information.
What exactly is PEKEV?
PEKEV is an advanced protective material made of high-strength polymer fibers, developed by the Resurgence Gear brand. It features an impressive combination of abrasion resistance, cut resistance, and tear resistance. Originally developed as a safer and more comfortable alternative to traditional aramid fibers, PEKEV now offers a unique balance between protection and comfort.
PEKEV variants: PEKEV Lite and PEKEV Ultra Lite
PEKEV is now available in different versions, which differ in weight and areas of application:
-
PEKEV Standard : Maximum abrasion protection, ideal for demanding rides and long tours. Used as a liner in jeans or motorcycle jackets. Sometimes even supplemented with PEKEV Ultra Lite as a lining in the protective zones.
-
PEKEV Lite : A lighter version with slightly reduced material thickness, but still offering excellent protection. Perfect for everyday wear, as it's more comfortable and breathable. Also used as an inner lining.
-
PEKEV Ultra Lite : The lightest, single-layer version, offering maximum freedom of movement and comfort, ideal for city riding and commuting. Despite its lightness, it offers excellent protection, often achieving the highest CE level AAA, and is ideal for warmer days.
Single-layer technology with PEKEV Ultra Lite
PEKEV Ultra Lite enables an innovative single-layer technology. Unlike traditional fabrics, where protective materials like Kevlar, Dyneema, or Rokkertech are woven either in the warp or weft direction, the PEKEV fibers are completely encased in the cotton fibers. This means that each individual fiber contains a PEKEV core. This process offers numerous advantages:
- Uniform protection : With PEKEV integrated into each fiber, the single-layer construction provides uniform, maximum protection with no weak points.
- Comfort and breathability : The material remains thin, light and breathable, ideal for everyday use.
- Versatile applications : PEKEV Ultra Lite can be combined not only with denim but also with virtually any other natural fiber. This creates, for example, single-layer cotton riding shirts and even AAA-certified waxed garments—a unique feature only possible thanks to PEKEV's superior heat resistance.
PEKEV vs. Kevlar, Dyneema, Rokkertech and Cordura – the differences
PEKEV vs. Kevlar
Kevlar is a well-known aramid fiber that has long been considered the standard in motorcycle clothing. Compared to Kevlar, PEKEV is:
- lighter and more flexible,
- often offers higher abrasion values (up to 10.83 seconds of abrasion protection),
- more resistant to UV rays and moisture, thus more durable.
PEKEV vs. Dyneema®
Dyneema is a high-strength polyethylene fiber that is extremely tear- and abrasion-resistant. Compared to Dyneema:
- PEKEV offers higher heat resistance and better protection against heat build-up caused by friction during a fall,
- PEKEV feels softer and more comfortable on the skin,
- Dyneema is slightly lighter, but less flexible and comfortable.
PEKEV vs. Rokkertech®
Rokkertech is a special single-layer blend of denim and UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) fibers. In comparison:
- PEKEV offers comparable abrasion values, but with slightly higher flexibility and better temperature resistance,
- Rokkertech often scores points when it comes to jeans washes, while PEKEV is particularly convincing when it comes to extreme protection requirements.
PEKEV vs. Cordura®
Cordura is a durable nylon material commonly used in textile clothing. Compared to Cordura:
- PEKEV offers significantly higher abrasion and cut resistance,
- is more heat-resistant and therefore particularly suitable for combination with waxed cotton fabrics,
- Cordura scores particularly well in terms of weather protection and suitability for everyday use, but generally offers less protection in the event of falls.
Conclusion: Why PEKEV is an excellent choice
With its outstanding combination of protection, comfort, and durability, PEKEV offers a compelling alternative to Kevlar, Dyneema, Rokkertech, and Cordura. Whether as a robust liner for longer tours or as a breathable single-layer option for everyday wear, PEKEV is the modern choice for motorcyclists who don't want to compromise. The downside is that PEKEV is currently used primarily in products from Resurgence Gear, while Dyneema or Cordura are used by a variety of brands.
